Preschool Project: Underwater World

(The Preschool Projects are pieces that I would like to share with the understanding that there is an emphasis on the process more than the product itself. Doing something with the little people requires one to be much more “in the moment” and renders the real time photo shoots nearly impossible. Glue, scissors, and little people moving quickly, low to the ground do not make for an ideal photo shoot setting. But I feel like there are many of you who also have little people around, and we are always looking for a good project to do with them, whether it is in a formal school setting or just at home.)

This week the project was making Underwater Worlds with the kiddies.

The original idea was to put some fish down, and some sea weed, and then spray the picture with “water”, and remove the fish for a reverse stencil effect, and reveal fish (outline)  in the ocean.

The paint was watercolor base, in a spray bottle.

While the spray was the part the kids really responded to, not one single fish, once placed, was ever pulled off. Funny, how the direction that they went was not at all what I expected, but their pictures are really neat.
Here are some of the results.

This friend made a “circle of fish.”

It was the first day of school for this friend. She was much younger than the others. And the stencil was a neat way to have success with her.

My little pet was enraptured by the scissors, again. Her work exhibits the rule “more is more.”
She really wanted to cut out her own fish

And you can see it here with the leading light green fish.

I am not sure about the “nest” on the bottom. All I can say is that it was silver and anything silver is good.

Happy School (of fish) days to you! I hope your fall is going swimmingly!
