This week’s Project Project Runway challenge was to create a sportswear outfit for a weekend getaway. We also had to be prepared to tell the story of our girl, where she was going and what season it was. I had a lot of fun with this one.
Obviously, my season is winter. My girl is big city girl headed off for a weekend of skiing at a ver fashionable resort in Colorado. She’s more concerned about looking good around a fire with a cocktail than how good the snow is on the slopes.
The outfit I designed starts with a black knit sweater with an oversized turtleneck, 3/4 length sleeves and a fur trim at the bottom. The sweater has a slight tunic shape with a little (but not too much) flare at the bottom. The pants are simple black knit leggings. A big part of this look is the accessories. I made a Russian inspired fur hat and matching muff. I love how if all looks together. I had to go off the accessory wall for my boots. They are still Neiman Marcus, but there were no tall winter boots on the wall at all and this look needed them.
I really couldn’t love my look anymore (even though the carpet of my craft room is covered with bits of fur). I think it is sleek, timelessly stylish and head turning. She looks like she could be a Russian spy in a James Bond movie.
This week was a Fashion Face Off on the show in that two designers each had a particular season and they were judged against each other. Stay tune for our runway tonight to see how my outfit stacks up against other winter designs.

I want this outfit! It’s got me written all over it, and is eons better than what was shown on the runway. I LOVE it, as usual!
OMG! What an awesome job you did! And I like yours better than theirs, too!
Again. So gorgeous.
Yes. This outfit is absolutely fantastic. Did you knit it all?
Very cool. The one thing that might have been a nice add was either silver, gold or red trim. Something to make it pop just a bit more.
Your model is quite striking and her outfit is fabulous.
