#77 – Binding

#77 - Binding
Time for a quilt update. After my post about the puckering problem I was having with my quilting my MIL, who is an amazing quilter, wrote & suggested pinning along the quilting line. I ripped out some of the areas with the worse puckering & tried that. Amazing! No puckers at all. So I fixed all of those spots.

Then it was on to the binding. It’s all machine sewed on except for finishing the join. Then all that is left is hand sewing the binding down. I think doing the binding might be my favorite part of quilting.

I tried to hand quilt around the bird. I think I’m missing something as my stitches were coming out very crooked on the back so that won’t happen. I think I’d enjoy hand quilting so I may make a practice piece & just work until I get it. I think I will hand tie in the middle of each square because this batting is supposed to be quilted every 3″ to 5″ & my squares are 6″. I don’t want the batting to bunch.

Handmade 365 2010- My goal is to spend time everyday working on something handmade for a year & photograph it.
