Iron Crafter Feature – Jenny Chang

What is your name?

My name is Jenny Chang.

Where do you live?

I live in Redmond, WA in an apartment with my husband Eugene and my orange kitty Milo.

What kind of crafts do you do?

Everything. I love learning new techniques. I mainly do jewelry-making, although I’ve done this with with a variety of materials. I also love acrylic painting, primarily birds. Some of the other crafts I’ve tried include knitting, crochet, woodworking, ceramics, and scrapbooking.

Where do you get your inspiration?

From nature as well as other artists. I enjoy a variety of blogs along with my morning coffee and I love seeing the creativity out there. This often sparks an idea to try a craft I’ve seen with my own personal twist. I also love the beauty I see around me and often incorporate the colors and patterns I see. Plus I love those birdies.

What new crafts or techniques would you like to learn?

I recently took a basic soldering class and would like to continue growing in my metal-working. I also would like to grow in my sewing skills and start making my own clothes. I think that if you want to make something, you can find a technique that works for you to make it.

Do you have a blog and/or Esty store?

Yes, and Yes!
Etsy shop: A Bird in the Hand Art
Blog: A Bird in the Hand

Anything else you’d like to tell us about yourself?

I started my life studying molecular biology and then animal behavior. I was on my way to becoming a college professor when my life took a twist. Now I am working on becoming an artist and starting my own business. Don’t be afraid to follow your heart!
