Challenge 12: We’re in a New York State of Mind
Challenge: Design an outfit inspired by a New York City landmark.
Feel free to show what accessories you would use from Piperlime.com
Time: You have 30 hours to create your design
My inspiration was the Guggenheim Museum. (Thanks Matt for the suggestion.)

I wanted to mimic the lines & the distinctive shape of the building in my design. So, what I went with was a modified bandage dress with alternating stripes of silver & gauzy. The sliver fabric is attached to the gauze in a way that it stands up a little at the edges for some dimension. This may be a pretty literal representation of my inspiration but I think it makes for an interesting, modern cocktail dress.
Now in the real world, the dress would be lined with a flesh colored liner so the gauze strips didn’t turn into a wardrobe malfunction but I didn’t have the right color fabric on hand.
Sadly, my fellow designer, Susi, had a death in her family & has spent the last couple of days flying from place to place with a toddler so she may not have been feeling very inspired by NYC this week.

LOVE this. Literal maybe, but very wearable. And cute!
Found your blog a few weeks ago off Tom & Lorenzo – love this project! This is a very cool dress.
Wow! You pulled off a really nice and interesting design this week!
Lovely dress, but as you say, in "real life" it would be lined…although so called "celebs" don't seem to mind making a spectacle of themselves
Cute! And more original than the Project Runway designs!
So! When are we going to see you on Project Runway, hmmm? Spectacular dress! Your designs are always original and inspired!
I love this one as much as the rest, Kathy. Seriously!
What Elle said…just so much fun watching you through this progression and truly impressed. You might be glad when it's over…I won't be!
I've really enjoyed your projects since discovering your blog. This one is great. It may be literal, but it has ended up as a truly wearable dress. Can't wait to see your final collection!
