Iron Craft ’16 Challenge 20 – Amigurumi

For this last Iron Craft challenge we were asked to challenge ourselves to try something we had never done before. I while back I taught myself to crochet, but I’d never gotten beyond a simple granny square or single crochet edge on my knitting. I really wanted to learn how to do crocheted amigurumi, especially after seeing the amazing stuff Iron Crafter Tawny B whips up. I found a great series from Canucksgirl on Instructables that taught the basics of amigurumi and then had a voodoo doll pattern to try.

As I went through the tutorials, I realized I already knew how to do all the basic stitches. This made it easy to dive into the pattern. I used fingering weight yarn and an E/4 3.5mm hook. It was probably I a little smaller than I should have started out with, but after doing the legs I had the hang of it. Stuffing the small limbs was the trickiest part.

For my photoshoot, I had a little fun and put wires in the arms so I could pose my little guy.

Now I feel confident enough to try other patterns. Maybe I’ll even get to the point that I can figure out how to do the amigurumi patterns I bought that are in Dutch!
