Weekend Cocktail: Cloister

I love chartreuse, both green and yellow. It has a strong herbal flavor, but just a little bit of it adds so much to a drink. One of our local restaurants, Haute Dish, makes a drink called the Drunk Monk with it that I love. It is herbal and fruity at the same time. I wanted to make something similar this week and discovered a Cloister which seemed to have just the right flavor pairings.

I didn’t have all the exact ingredients, so I kind of winged it. The original calls for grapefruit juice and yellow chartreuse, I used lemon and green chartreuse instead. I also added a little more lime juice than the original recipe called for. It was really refreshing and citrusy. I love how it almost had a neon glow in the light.

Cloister

1 1/2 oz gin
1/2 oz green or yellow chartreuse
1/2 oz lemon juice
1/2 oz lime juice
1/4 – 1/2 oz simple syrup
ice
shaker
cocktail glass

Put all the ingredients and a shaker with ice. Shake. Strain out the ice and serve in a cocktail glass. Garnish with a slice of fruit if you have it. (We don’t get that fancy.)
