Iron Craft ’14 Challenge #21 – Knit Spider Lady Wristwarmers

For this Iron Craft challenge we were asked to make something for Halloween or Day of the Dead. I was stumped which was odd because I love making things for Halloween. At the last minute I came up with the idea to knit spiderweb handwarmers.

These were good practice for knitting lace and I like them. I can see really long ones as part of a Halloween costume.

There really isn’t much of a pattern for these, but here are some notes on what I did…

1. I use Baby Ull on size 6 needles. My gauge in stockinette was 7 stitches per inch. It may have looked more weblike with a thinner yarn like a lace weight.

2. I wanted them to pull the stitching quite a bit while on to exaggerate the holes, so I only knit 29 stitches for my 7.5″ hand.

3. I used the Starlight Lace Pattern.

4. The handwarmer was knit flat and then seamed up leaving about a 2″ hole for the thumb.

5. To make the ribbing at the end I added 14 more stitches and knit with a size 5 needle.

6. I sewed the top of the handwarmer together in the middle (between my middle finger and my ring finger) to keep it in place and pulled taut.
