April Showers Stitch Along Finished!

I’ve just taken the last stitch on the binding and can show you my finished April Showers Stitch Along.

Here is the close up of the embroidery. I used french knots for the rain. I’m not completely thrilled with how they look. I think it looks more like snow which is appropriate because we were having an April snow storm the day I did this.

It was my first time doing this sort of applique patchwork piecing as well as making a mini-quilt. I have to admit I’ve always made fun of the mini-quilt thing, what are they used for? But, I have to say, it was fun to have a project come together so quickly and use so many different skills. This one will be a wall hanging, probably in my craft room, but really, a person can only use so many wall hangings. It’s back to full-sized quilts for me.

Finished this piece was pretty simple & took just two afternoons…

First, I trimmed the background fabric to three inches wide making the finished piece 18″ x 18″. Then I cut a piece of the same fabric for the backing.

Next, the quilt sandwich was made & all pieces pinned together.

I kept the quilting very simple. I went around the enter pieced square and then just did straight lines 1″ further in. I wanted it to have a frame-like quality to it. The brown binding adds to that frame look.
