Memphis Skyline Pillow

Since it’s Mother’s Day I can show you the pillow I stitched for my mother’s gift, the Memphis Skyline Pillow.

My mom had told me how much she like the Minneapolis pillow I made so, I decided to do Memphis for her. My parents live on an island in Memphis with a view of the pyramid out their front window which made it important for me to get the view from a similar direction.

If you’ve been watching the news about the floods in Memphis it seems most of the networks have been filming from in front of their house. They are on a little higher ground so, their house is safe. But, as the water keeps rising access off and on the island may be cut of (already one of the two access points are gone) and snakes are coming out (ewww!). They haven’t been told to leave yet and hopefully won’t lose power or sewer. I’m keeping my fingers crossed I don’t get a call they have had to take the dog and move to a hotel!

Back to the pillow – Once again I did it on black wool crepe. I makes for a beautiful, rich looking finished pillow but, it’s a little tricky for stitching because the pattern I trace on comes off so easily. I’m thinking for the next pillow like this I may try attaching the pattern paper right to the fabric, stitching through both & then just tearing the paper away.

See my post on the Minneapolis Skyline Pillow for a little tutorial on how I make these.
