Christmas Vignettes from Kat’s House

I’ve had a lot of fun decorating our new loft for the holidays this year and wanted to share some of the cheer with all of you.

I kept this year’s mantle pretty simple just pulling red and white things I had around the house and in my Christmas decorations together. The lit frosted ball wreath was a project from this year and adds a nice bit of sparkle to the area.

My dining room centerpiece is a little different, but I love the way it looks on the reclaimed wood table. I found the antler candleholder at William-Sonoma and had to have it. I set it in a bed of faux fir branches with pinecones and then nestled in some mercury glass votives.

This little ceramic piggy is meant to be a garden planter, but since I no longer have a garden he sits on the bench in our entranceway. I filled him up with faux greenery plus red and silver Christmas balls. (A little paper stuffed in at first gave everything a lift and meant I didn’t need a ton of stuff to fill him.)

Twelve feet of bookshelves line one of our walls which gives me lots of space to add little decorations, from my embroidered deer head and felted elf to a moss roofed village I made last year (yes, that is the pooping log in my little village). My aunt made my collection of felt tomtes while the straw goats and women come from my mother’s collection of Scandinavian decorations that she handed down to me when she moved.

A collection of ruby glass, given to me by my parents, adds some color to what can be a stark winter view.

Finally, our Lego Christmas village fills the top of a bookcase in the kitchen. This is such a great series, Matt and I love putting the village together every year and collecting each new piece.

Everything feels so warm and festive right now, which I guess is perfect when it’s cold and dark outside. I hope your homes feel cozy and bright this time of year!
