For this week’s challenge the designers picked a pair of shoes from the Marie Claire accessory closet and designed an outfit to go with them. Since we at Project Project Runway haven’t been invited to Marie Claire (yet), we could chose something from online.
I went with a very on trend shoe for this fall, the heeled brogue. This kicky, little pair is from Boden.
I didn’t want to make something too dressy to go with them. I felt like this was a shoe you could wear all day for work or just out with friends. What I came up with is a plaid tunic dress and black legging pants.
The plaid is over-sized in scale. The tunic is long enough to be worn as a dress or with pants like I’ve shown it. It 3/4 sleeves and a large boat neck made to hang off one shoulder. I added a black strap at the shoulder. The back of the dress has a dart for a little shaping at the waist and a little flare at the skirt.
For accessories, I added a fun Betsy Johnson ring and charm bracelet. I felt like the plaid had a touch of schoolgirl to it and these reminded me a bit of schoolgirl jewelry. I would also have changed out the laces on the shoes to either black or red instead of the pink.
I’m not happy with how this look photographed, it looked a lot cuter in person. Also the plaid looks black in person not blue.
I think perhaps I would just be safe this week. The outfit is cute enough not to get chopped by the judges, but maybe too simple to end up in the top three. It is cute fashion, but could be a little more high end. I feel it is a bit on par with Dom’s dress that was safe this week.
