Oh my gosh, it is less than a month to the Minnesota State Fair and of course, I’m sprinting to finish my entry. I am entering the colorwork mittens category again and once again using my own design.
You may recognize the Goldy Gopher face I designed for my cousin Andy’s mittens last fall. I switched the colors from the original so Goldy is actually gold and made the “M” on the hat a little closer to the University of Minnesota “M”.
The palm of the mitten feature the Minnesota “M” and work over to the other side slightly.
The cuff says “Ski-U-Mah,” a slogan used at the U since 1884. I’m hoping the local twist wins me some extra love from the judges, plus the mascot of the fair is also a gopher.
I still need to figure out what I’m going to do on the thumb if anything and it all needs a good blocking. Oh yeah, I also need to knit the second mitten. Ok, going to pick up my needles now!

Wow, those are great! I bet they love the local theme and the gopher design.
This year, I entered five categories in the County Show. The two I thought I had least chance with were the only ones to win prizes! Which just shows, you can never predict the judge’s decisions.
These look great. I love the M on the inside. Great addition to the mittens. I’d pick yours!
Great job. Not being local, the significance of the design goes over my head, but I’m impressed by how intricate the design is and how well executed it is. Good luck.
