I am still busily knitting away at the Art Deco mittens that were designed for our contest winner, Beth. The first mitten is done except for the thumb. Here is the front.

You can see they still need a good blocking and a thumb. I was going to do a pattern on the thumb, but am thinking just black might look best with these.
I’ve got to tell you, knitting with three colors is taking me much longer than I anticipated. What is slowing me down? It’s untangling the yarn, I have to stop and do it every one or two rows. I love the way the three colors look though, so it is worth it. My goal is to really buckle down and get the second mitten done this week. Soon, I’ll need to get started on this year’s state fair mittens.

Beautiful! Knitting is so calming for me~ and an easy way to vent my creativity! Please, tell more baout enteing items at the fair! I want to do that this year and have no idea if there is any advice you can offer, Please?!?
Last year was my first year entering anything at the State Fair. Every fair is different, but I am sure there are similarities. Visit your fair’s website and find out when they publish the list of categories and rules. For the MN State Fair which is in August, they release the Creative Activities book in May. Read the rules carefully for the categories you are interested in, they can be quite specific about the type of items allowed. The rules will also give you specifics on when, where and how entries must be delivered. Then it’s just a matter of getting your projects done on time. You should also check to see if your fair requires you to register your project ahead of time, at the fair here that differs based on the type of entries.
I am getting together my projects for this year’s County Show. I plan to enter: An Item Of Patchwork; Stuffed Toy; A Scarf; A Handmade Garment (bit scared of that one); and A Display of Cupcakes. So far I have made a patchwork journal cover and a stuffed toy owl. I have yarn and pattern picked out for the scarf and plans for the cupcakes. I’m not sure about the garment – I want to make something I’ll actually wear as well as something the judges will like. I could enter a raincoat I made last summer, but the lining isn’t perfect, so I’d like to try something else. Our show is the last week in May, so there isn’t all that long to get everything done!
