I was inspired by the Egg Crate Owls on Heart and Soul Preschool.
They were so clever, and they really adapted so well to all the variations that the little artists made to them, that I thought we should try them out.
Here is how ours came out.
Supplies:
- google eyes
- brown paint
- egg crates
- feathers
I cut the egg crates up before we got to school. (note, you can get a lot of eyes and ears out of one carton, but if you cut them as shown, you will only have 2 body sections. So plan body alternatives OR collect a lot cartons before hand.
I showed the kiddies “look, here is the owl, the eyes, the ears, and the beak” and they smiled and nodded. And then, they put that “eye” piece on there however they wanted.
It was hilarious to watch. But really, who am I to say? Whoo? Whoo?

Clever! Looks like fun.
Thanks Mom! Love you!
Given how much ice cream I make each year, I have tons of egg cartons. I’ll have to keep this in mind for my friend’s young boy. He’s 4, so I don’t know if it would be simpler than he’d enjoy.
