Can you believe we are already one month into this KAL?! When you finish this mitten your garland will be 1/4th done. I know some folks are struggling with getting their color work just right, but these mittens are a great practice piece, stick with it, you’ll be happy you did. All and all, I have to say the ones people are sharing in the Ravelry group look great.
So, let’s move on to Three French Hens.
Download the 12 Days Mittens Chart 3. (Here is the 12 Days of Christmas Mitten Pattern if you need to download it again.) As before, you’ll find two versions of the chart, one with the mirrored image and one with a number on the back. I have also charted an optional number on the thumb.
I do want to talk a little bit about knitting this one. Many of you will have noticed that your knitting is tighter when you do color work, especially if you are new to color work. So with this mitten, I want you to be careful when knitting the plain area below the hens. You don’t want that section to look a lot wider than the color work section. Pay attention to your gauge. I make a point of knitting the plain section tighter than I normally knit, I really concentrate on it. You could also switch to a needle a size smaller. If you are only getting a small difference in width in that section, you will probably be able to block it into shape.
Here is my set so far.
I’m looking forward to seeing all of yours!
