Every Friday for the twenty-four weeks leading up to December 1st, we will be making a handmade Christmas ornament. Follow along and make them all or pick and chose your favorites.
I just realized this week that we haven’t had a knit ornament yet! Well, I couldn’t let that continue. This week’s ornament is for my husband, a knit robot inspired by vintage robot toys.
The face on mine came out a little fierce, but you can make yours as cute or funny as you wish. That is part of the fun of this ornament, you decorate him how you want with embroidery, beads, sequins, buttons, whatever…
The knitting here is not hard at all, just two flat pieces and four i-cords, but I will admit the seaming is a little bit fiddly. I thought about ways to get around seaming, but none of them were going to give me the square shape I wanted (and really, it isn’t THAT much seaming). (If you would like to knit up a robot in the round, or just a second robot, check out our pattern for the pocket-sized robot.)
So grab some scrap yarn and knit one up!

These instructions describe the yarn, needles and gauge I used, but this ornament can be knit with any yarn and needles you want. Just make sure to get a tight gauge so the stuffing doesn’t show. The thicker the yarn the bigger your robot will be, my robot was about 3.25” tall.
Supplies:
• 7g/32 yds fingering weight yarn (Knit Picks Palette in Silver)
• scrap fingering yarn (Knit Picks Palette in Pimento)
• size 1 needles
• two size 1 double pointed needles (for icord)
• tapestry needle
• embroidery floss, beads, buttons, sequins, etc for decorating
• embroidery needle
• fabric glue
• jump ring for hanging
Gauge: My gauge was 10 stitches and 12 rows per inch
