This week we were asked to design for a celebrity, someone who we have all grown up with, someone who countless designers have created looks for…someone who’s longterm boyfriend is a frog. Yes, that’s right we were designing for Miss Piggy. With a new movie making the rounds she needed a cocktail dress she could where on the red carpet at premieres.
I wanted to make a look that said, this is who you are here to see, there is the star of this film. I wanted it to be sexy and flashy.
Ok, I went with a pink. I know a little trite going for pink for Miss Piggy, but I fell in love with this fabric for this challenge. In the end the dress really became about the fabric, because with all the sparkle there was no need to over design.
The dress is form fitting with a bit of architectural detail at the bodice. The skirt is a faux wrap which gives a little interest at the hem line. There is some ruching at the waistline on one side, a technique that is flattering on a, ahem, larger figure, creating a more defined waist.
I had a really hard time picking accessories this week. I didn’t want to do matchy-matchy pink or add another metallic. So, in the end I went with simple black. The dress is going to catch the eyes so the accessories can hang out more in the background here.
Based on the dresses Miss Piggy liked best on the show I think this one would have gotten positive praise. Perhaps it is a touch too simple, but I think that fabric under the lights would scream star.

I think Miss Piggy would look smashing in this! By the way, I’m missing Tim, but really quite enjoy this season’s mentor. You?
Oooh sparkly and pretty! Miss Piggy would love it! As do I. 😀
