I’ve been slowly knitting away at the first sleeve on my 8,000 Feet Hoodie excitedly looking forward to starting the colorwork. There’s really not much to show or talk about at this part, but I noticed a few others have picked up their yarn to get started.
Susi is finishing up a bear of a lace work sweater, but couldn’t wait to get her color choices together for the hoodie.
What a lovely palette. The body will be that soft green which is SUCH a Susi color. The yarn is Elizabeth Lavold Silky Wool XL, an 80% wool/20% silk blend. It should have a beautiful drape. Susi has decided to make things a little tricky for herself as this yarn does not knit to the gauge called for in the pattern. This will be interesting for the rest of us as she is going to teach us how she still uses the pattern despite the gauge issues.
Jenny from A Mom and Two Things has also picked her yarn and done her gauge swatch.
She went with Cascade 220 Sport like I did, even using the same grey as the body color. She went much more subtle for the colorwork though using black, natural, blue and a lighter grey. She ran into a problem that she couldn’t find a lighter grey in the Cascade. So, she looked at other yarns of the same weight that were also 100% wool. She ended up with Dale of Norway Heilo. Keep that in mind if you are having a problem finding colors you like in the same yarn. She did her gauge swatch on size 6 needles and was spot on for the pattern.
What about the rest of you? I know a few people have mentioned they are interested in doing this sweater. Has anyone else picked out their yarn yet? Have you done a gauge swatch? We’d love to see and hear about it in our Flickr group and we may write about it here.

I’e picked up my yarn and hope to post it to Flickr soon. I went with a more subtle color scheme. I’m backed up by the guage swatch. I just read Susi’s post and am hoping to get to the swatch this weekend.
