What is your name?
Moira
Where do you live?
Rhode Island
What kind of crafts do you do?
Oh, man, what kind of crafts do I not do is probably a better question! I teach jewelry classes to middle school kids, so I make a lot of mixed media jewelry projects. I use collage in a lot of my work, from jewelry to my art journal. Lately, I’ve been exploring paint & canvases. Oh, and I’ve recently become friends with my sewing machine. In the winter, I like to crochet warm fuzzy things.
Where do you get your inspiration?
Everywhere! I love reading arts and crafts tutorials online to get new ideas. Some of my favorite artists at the moment are Teesha Moore, Kelli Perkins, Suzi Blu, and Alma Stoller. I check out stacks of library books every few weeks to learn new techniques, too. My favorite thing is to take techniques from one discipline and find a way to apply them to jewelry. I love to play around with whatever materials I find in my studio to see what happens. I also get really inspired by my students, who are always sparking new ideas for me.
What new crafts or techniques would you like to learn?
Hmm… That’s a tough one! In theory, I’d like to learn metalworking for jewelry, but in actuality, I know I’m just way to impatient for that! I’d like to learn how to do nice, neat soldering. That’s something I’ve never mastered. I’d also like to experiment with metal clay. I also want to learn how to make video tutorials, since I’d love to teach an online class.
