I’ve been looking for a jersey dress for the summer & traveling. Something that could be casual in the day & dressed up for night. I just couldn’t find anything that fit me correctly, a problem I’ve always had with dresses. I realized I was going to have to follow the advice they always give on What Not To Wear & get one altered. Well, not get one altered but alter it myself. This dress fit perfectly from the waist down but the top was too big so I ended up taking it in about 2 1/2 inches per side. (Sometimes I have a hard time imagining who these dresses will fit). Then I cut away the excess & used a zig-zag stitch to finish the seams. I really should have taken the lining off the top & sort of remade the dress but that was just too much work & I think this looks fine.

you are inspiring…i used to cut my shirts that are too tight in the neck.. or too loose on the sides and tie them like little knots.. but i grew tired now..i had done to costa rica vacation and wound up.. i didn't like altering my clothes then..not until i read your page…
I prefer to make from scratch rather than alter. Jersey is a difficult fabric to cope with
Very impressive Kat. I think it looks great. I am always afraid that if I alter it will look bad.
