#36 – Quilt Squares

#36 - Quilt squares
I spent a good chunk of today ironing fabric & then cutting out the squares for my first quilt. I found this really stressful. I’m not particularly good with the rotary cutter. I have problems with my ruler slipping too. But I think I did ok. My rectangles seem to be square & all the same size, so far so good. I didn’t do myself any favors picking a couple plaid fabric either (though I decided not to stress about whether or not the plaid was straight on the squares). This is about 120 rectangles though I only need 10 of each fabric. I figured it was worth having extras. Next I have to cut out 100 squares of my plain fabric but my shoulders were too sore to continue on today.

Handmade 365 2010- My goal is to spend time everyday working on something handmade for a year & photograph it.

    • uh-oh. i have not used my rotary cutter yet. this is scaring me. i did pick up a wheel of cut strips at my local quilt shop…enough for a quilt and i loved the colors and patterns. i know it seems like cheating and it probably is…

    • Sandy – I'm not exactly sure what that means. I just followed the directions for cutting that we were given in the quilt along. I'm sure if I make any quilts beyond this first one I'll learn more tricks.
