As I mentioned in a previous post, part of the MN State Fair this year is The Great MN Knit Together with different guild and groups around the area creating fiber covered topiaries. I organized the building of a horse for the Minnesota Knitters’ Guild and we have spent the last week getting it all sewn together. Here is our lovely finished horse, Pronto.
As you can see he is munching away at a Fair favorite, the Pronto Pup.
We also had to cover a 6′ x 10′ back drop. For this I knit up large pieces with size 17 needles and two strands of worsted yarn held together. We had some squares left over from Pronto that I used on the bottom.
I made a foot and a half wide ribbon and another Guild member knit up ice cream cones, cookies and an apple to decorate the board. Finally, we sewed on extra bulky yarn to create the lettering. Man, that lettering was a lot of work, but I love that is sort of looks like sky writing.
The fair opens August 24th and all of this will be on display on the Grandstand ramp. I’ll take lots of pictures of all the different topiaries and other yarnbombings to share.
