Finally! I have been promising the finished pattern for the Pride and Prejudice Mittens since I made them earlier this year and here it is.
These mittens were inspired by the vintage Pride and Prejudice cover that featured a peacock. A peacock circles each mitten’s cuff with its head just reaching up into the hand. The hand is covered with stylized peacock feathers.
The back of the left hand has a quote from Pride and Prejudice. You can use the quote or just continue with the feather pattern like on the right mitten.
I would not suggest these mittens to someone who is new to mittens or color work knitting. While the shape of the mittens is pretty standard, they are knit on size 000 needles in lace weight yarn. The hemmed picot edging is done on 0000 needles. The yarn I used was Knit Picks Alpaca Cloud which is a beautiful 100% baby alpaca that comes in gorgeous colors. (The rich blue and daisy yellow I used have a very Regency feel to them.) I love the way it feels to wear, but because alpaca is on the fuzzier side it does take away from some of the sharpness of the color work.
