Project: Cornwall Spring Mittens

Spring is in the air, but that doesn’t stop me from knitting more mittens! This pair is for a friend of mine who lives in Cornwall, England.
Cornwall Spring Mittens
When we discussed design, she told me she really like green and cream together. She also mentioned she liked the polka dots on the cuff of my Dalek Mittens. I picked three beautiful shades of green from Knit Picks Palette that made me think of the yellow greens of spring turning into the dark greens of summer. Finally, even though she said she isn’t a fan of exact representations, I couldn’t resist adding some bunting to the cuff. Bunting just makes me think of English garden parties. I did the bunting in Koigu KPPPM in shades of blue since Cornwall is a peninsula surrounded by the sea.

Actually, my working title for these mittens was Dreaming of a Cornwall Spring, because lately I have been seeing all these beautiful pictures of the countryside and shore from my friends who live there. So, I sat here in grey, cold Minnesota dreaming of that landscape while designing and knitting these up.

Size: 7.4” wide x 7.5” long, not including 2.5”cuff. (It is important to get gauge to get the stated size.) The directions also include a tip to make a 7″ long mitten.

(I knit these up to my friend’s specific measurements, so the charted mittens are slightly different than the pair I knit up. I wanted the charted ones to be closer to what I consider and average woman’s medium.)

Gauge: 10 stitches and 12 rows per inch (It is important to get gauge to get the stated size.)
