Project Project Runway Challenge #11 – Kat’s Design

This week on Project Runway the designers bid on the contents of storage units to get their materials for their designs. Since the Project Project Runway designers don’t have access to doll-sized storage units, we were told to use items around our house. We could use things made of fabric, but not from our fabric stash.

I looked around one of our closets and found, the bag a duvet came in, a cotton cardigan that didn’t fit me anymore and some auto upholstery vinyl (no idea why I have that). The fabrics felt more on the casual side to me so I went with separates.

I started with just the pants (cheering myself for making pants from a non-stretch material) and the cropped sweater. I thought it need more, so I added the vinyl vest/coat. I think it completes the look and makes it more “fashion.”

I’m afraid the judges wouldn’t love my look this week. The pants and sweater, while cute and Heidi’s favorite, body conscious, they may come off a little too junior. I can see it selling in any department store, but it’s not high fashion. The coat gives it an interesting futuristic edge, but I’m afraid the vinyl is a little stiff (especially at this scale). Still I really like this look and if I was 20 years younger, I’d wear it.
