Here it is the end of our third season of Project Project Runway. I have to say, this is the first season I haven’t been ready for it to be over. I guess that is why I challenged myself to do a full six piece collection like the designers on the show had to do. There is a lot to show you here, so let’s start the runway.
I call my collection Casual Elegance. I came up with my designs by thinking about what a fashionable city girl might need to wear in a weekend. There are a lot of separates in this collection, because I feel like that is really how most people dress. It may make this collection a little more ready-to-wear than couture. I am thrilled with how it came out and how it looks like a collection.
Look 1 – 9 to 5
This is work look. A simple black gaberdine dress topped with a knit sweater jacket in a zig-zag print. A red leather belt brings in a pop of color. It look professional but not stuffy. Without the jacket the dress is a great little classic black dress that will carry our girl to happy hour cocktails after the day is done. Part of our challenge was to use leftover fabric from a past design, the dress in this look was made from left over gaberdine from my Papua New Guinea dress.
Look 2 – Friday Night Fun
A flirty, little, silk a-line skirt in a mod print is topped with a sexy black stretch top. The top is sexy with one shoulder showing, but by no means vulgar.
Look 3 – Saturday Brunch with the Boyfriend’s Parents
The zig-zag knit shows up again in a fully-lined maxi skirt. A stretch tee keeps it from being too dressy for day.
Look 4 – Saturday Date Night
A high waisted black skirt is topped with a red silk blouse with a dramatic neckline.
Look 5 – Sunday Brunch and Shopping with the Girls
A batwing sleeved tunic in the silk mod print tops a pair of black knit leggings. The look is casual and comfortable while also chic.
Look 6 – Benefit Event
The collection ends with a red silk dress. Diagonal pleat makes it seem as if the silk is wrapping around Jade to fit her perfectly. The dress is classy and timeless, yet the pleat give it some modern interest.
